Trojan Wars

After the tenth year of the war, tensions flare and stakes soar as the now destitute Achaean coalition concludes that there is only one way to regain the upper hand: persuading Achilles, their best and most formidable warrior, to rejoin the battlefield. With Trojan forces emboldened and Greek morale waning, the Gods and Goddesses bloc is focused on the continued support and aid to their respective sides of the war while toeing the line of interference in mortal affairs. The Trojan bloc aims to press on, decimating the Achaean forces once and for all with the help of their allied deities, thus re-establishing peace in their homeland. The Achaean bloc, however, is focused on nursing the wounds of their troops, and even attempting to end the war diplomatically as a means to avoid further irreparable damage. If the diplomatic strategy fails, the Achaean bloc must regain the support of Achilles, a pursuit whose outcome will determine whether or not the Greeks can maintain their campaign against Troy.
Four Party Frenzy

It is late October 2026, and the durability of the two-party system in the United States could not be more tenuous. Ahead of the November midterm elections, the popularity of the Republican party under aging President Donald Trump is precipitously declining as a series of government shutdowns, cabinet firings, and internal scandals have hampered Trump's ability to fulfill the self-proclaimed 'mandate' he was elected with. To make matters worse, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) was ousted because he was unable to maintain a coalition between the MAGA and establishment wings of his party, which have since formed two distinct conservative parties—the hardline America First Party and the establishment Conservative party.
Simultaneously, in the months after President Trump's inauguration, the Democrats faced crippling internal strife due to insurmountable ideological disagreements over the party's post-Biden identity. Fueled by the unpopularity of the establishment Democrats, the left flank of the party led by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) broke off to create the People's Progressive Party, which pushes for accelerated commitment to solving wealth inequality, climate change, and social equity. The remaining institutionalist Democrats coalesced into the New Liberal Party under Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY)
Now, the House of Representative must elect a new speaker with a majority, requiring a coalition of two or more of the new parties. Many representatives have been mulling a bid, but it has been reported that outside actors (ie. non representatives) are seeking the Speakership as well. The outcome of this power struggle will represent the future ruling coalition of America—a country in dire need of a new political identity.
Drone Warfare on the Ukrainian Front

In the evolving reality of warfare, the use of suicide drones-- armed unmanned aerial vehicles serving one purpose, destruction- has emerged as a hotly contested and disruptive tool of destruction on the frontlines of Ukraine. While these drones pose a cost-efficient solution to the depleting military resources of Ukraine, they have brought to light many ethical, legal, and humanitarian concerns. In this committee, your job as a delegate is to explore the growing implications of this new form of warfare on global security and their violations against International Humanitarian Law. You must walk the fine line between upholding humanitarianism and necessary warfare techniques. Drone warfare may be cost-effective, but is it purely immoral to use the footage of destruction as propaganda? These are the tough questions you will tackle within the debate.
Committee on the Peaceful Use of Outer Space

When a private corporation, backed by a coalition of spacefaring nations has begun extracting helium-3 and rare metals from the Moon, a satellite image leaks that shows the mining may have been extracted to be used in weapons. Smaller nations claim that this is a violation of the Outer Space Treaty (OST), arguing that it is not being used for peaceful purposes. Nations try to monopolize space resources while environmental groups warn that lunar resource extraction could have catastrophic consequences on Earth and the balance of the solar system. The pro-space mining bloc advocates for the right of countries and private companies to mine the Moon and other planets, citing economic and scientific benefits and arguing for minimal UN interference, trying to prove that mining should be regulated by national laws and agreements between nations. The equal access bloc pushes for an international framework that guarantees equal access to space resources, especially for smaller nations or those starting their space programs, and advocates to prevent resource monopolization by powerful nations and corporations. The preservation bloc opposes resource exploitation of the Moon and other planets, arguing that space should remain a global commons for scientific research and peaceful purposes and advocates for strict international regulation, environmental preservation, and wants to prohibit space mining until there are guidelines.
SAG-AFTRA

It is the summer of 2023, and members of SAG-AFTRA, the largest union representing American actors and other entertainment industry members, have voted overwhelmingly to go on strike. Disagreements over a new collective bargaining agreement and the threat of artificial intelligence replacing actors, especially for smaller roles, ultimately motivated the actors to walk off the job. Filming for many movies and TV shows has ground to a halt, potentially affecting future releases for years to come. With Hollywood already in a tumultuous period it is more important than ever that production companies and their executives reach a deal with striking actors or risk significant financial losses. With consumers beginning to feel the effects of the strike as summer comes to an end, the future of the movie and entertainment industry as a whole will rest on a speedy and comprehensive resolution that bridges the actors’ concerns about working conditions, pay, and technological replacements with the industry’s financial interests.
